7 Ways To Style the Midi Skirt

What is a Midi ?

The "midi" is a three quarter length skirt, falling halfway between your knee and ankle. It can take a variety of shapes - pencil, A-line, or circular, etc – the key point is the length.

Midi skirts are the perfect ladylike addition to every lady’s wardrobe  and thanks to its polite hemline and non-clingyness, the midi has traditionally been the sartorial go-to for old ladies and prim, librarian types. Classic midis have a pesky habit of doing absolutely zero for your figure. These skirts are the only ones that pass fashion muster right now as they’re everywhere.

Pencil skirts are indisputably a timeless staple that every woman should have in her styling arsenal. Pencil skirts may be universally flattering, but a midi length that hits below the knee is quite challenging to wear.

Just like the denim, midi skirts popularity is partly down to the fact that they’re really photogenic. So how well can you style the midi skirt trends to look great and photogenic? How do you make the midi skirt work for you in those memorable photos?

Before you whip out your midi skirt and head out the door for those lovely memorable moments, there are a few guidelines you need to follow.

1) Try the Ankle Straps

No matter what midi length you’ve got on, strappy heels give you an easy boost and elongate your look. Choose a neutral pair to lend your outfit a subtle lift without taking away from the pattern on your skirt.

2) Step up your look

If you go for a printed midi, break up your look with neutral separates and finish up your outfit with complementing accessories like a pair of shoe in a similar shade.

 3) Be Colourful

Rock a midi skirt most effortlessly by choosing one in a bold color and allow it to break up your look
Wearing prints and patterns on your outfits can add some flair to your looks. If you wish to add some volume on your hips and add some curves on your hips, think of horizontal stripes that can do the tricks for you. Also, you may go for floral prints and plaid patterns that will also work in more formal setting like business meetings and formal gatherings.

4) The way to go

If you don't want to look like an extra from Grease or you don't want to look about five, then you need to get this high/low thing nailed. That's official fashion speak for pairing designer with high street, but it's also about the contrast between polished and classy-and-chic.

5)  Be simple yet Glamorous

Be simple, it pays to be !
A flouncy midi skirt is a feminine statement piece, so let yourself feel girlie and accessorize with jewelries of pearls and gemstones. Since midi skirts tend to swamp your frame, think of going high waist, especially if you’re petite. High waist styles elongate your legs visually, making you look taller and leaner than you actually are. Just keep your tops cropped or tucked in to look more flattering and proportioned.

6) Walk the line

Heels are an instant way to un-frump a midi. Still, if you can't pull off a slide, you can still be modern by going for a block heel sandal. The minimal detail on the front will ensure your legs look longer. Tick. These ones are from New Look.

7) Observe the power of classy

Midis are often charged with being unflattering, but that's as much to do with the fabric and the shape of the skirt, rather than its length.  You just wanna wear something to feel comfortable in .Since midi skirts fall below your knees.  If you wish for a more daring look, wear a plunging bandeau crop top teamed with pencil midi skirt but tame the sexy vibe with a lightweight coat like Nicole Warne did.

 Beauty notes

Finally, to pull the look together, slick your hair back, a tried and tested backstage trick to instantly take an outfit from retro to fresh. Keep your make-up lo-fi in keeping with this season's grunge, undone mood. Bold up your eyebrows and add a hint of graphic eyeliner.
