Francis Taiwo The pastor, Francis Taiwo who chained his 9-year-old son has been arrested by the police in Ogun state. The victim, Korede was rescued by officers of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on patrol in the area following a tip-off by a resident. He was chained by his father who is a pastor at the Celestial Church of Christ, Key of Joy Parish, Ajiwo, Ogun state for repeatedly stealing (pots of soup) from his stepmother, Kehinde. According to PREMIUM TIMES, the Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi said the suspect who has been on the run following the rescue, was arrested on Sunday with the help of church members. Zimbabwe has announced that the country is making plans to make the Chinese Yuan legal tender after Beijing confirmed it would cancel $40 million in debts, Guardian UK reports. One of the country’s ministers, Patrick Chinamasa, confirmed the news, stating, “They [China] said they are cancelling our debts that are maturing this year and we are in the process of finalising the debt instruments and calculating the debts.” Chinamasa is also said to have announced that Zimbabwe will officially make the Chinese yuan legal tender as it seeks to increase trade with Beijing. The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has rescued a boy, Taiwo, 9 who was chained for weeks at the Key of Joy Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ in Ajiwo, Ogun state. A statement on their Facebook page said that the boy was rescued at about 10:30AM on Friday. The case has since been transferred to the appropriate authorities for further investigation, the statement said. A group of suspected Muslim youths yesterday attacked St. Philip’s Catholic Parish, Baki Iku, close to Zuma Rock in Niger State, destroying properties worth thousands of Naira, THISDAY reports. Reports say the attackers, numbering about 200 stormed the church premises on Friday, destroyed properties, and injured the church’s security officer and a seminarian.
